There is no doubt that roofing can be a boring topic unless you have a
roofing problem or a leaky roof. Most of the time we don’t think much
about our roof unless we have a problem. Our roofing system serves an
important role in protecting the integrity of our home. Our roof keeps
out the water, wind, snow and cold and hot weather. When water starts
to leak into our home it can cause a tremendous amount of stress and
anxiety.
A leaky roof can cause hundreds to thousands of dollars in damages
and should not be ignored. The most difficult part about a leaky roof
can sometimes be finding the source of the problem. If you want to
correct the problem yourself, begin by looking to in the attic to
determine the entry point of the leak. Sometimes water can appear to be
leaking from the roof when in fact it’s leaking from the window or
soffit. While in the attic look for the obvious signs like water
pooling but also less obvious signs like dried water buildup on the
rafters and joists. Because water will travel along a slope before it
begins to drip it can be difficult to locate.
